Economic Issues in Canadian Geography
Economics is the study of how individuals and societies use their limited resources to meet their unlimited needs and wants. This unit
invites students to explore some of Canada’s resources, to assess their economic significance, and to consider and respond to issues
related to how we use these resources.
In particular, the second half of this unit focuses on the use of energy resources. Students investigate why there is a pattern of
increasing demand for these resources and the issues this creates.
This unit continues to deepen students’ understanding of how systems thinking can be used to understand and improve our way of
living on planet Earth.
